Bio-Structural Integration™ and Nature's Anti-Inflammatory

Bio-Structural Integration™ sets the new standard of rehabilitation that is unique, effective and provides quick relief of pain! It is a unique, trademarked process at Osteoklinika!

Over 15 years ago we discovered that therapy centered around only one system simply does not work. Why? The body functions as a unit. When we get injured the central nervous system may be affected, the joints will develop misalignment, the muscles will be in spasm, connective tissue and fascia become tight, the inflammatory process sets in, even internal organs can be affected. Every cell in our body works synergetically together to maintain homeostasis.
When one system is disturbed the other cannot function properly. In our method of Bio-Structural Integration™ we address the dysfunction at every level.  Within one treatment Cranial Osteopathy is used to release central nervous system lesions. After that Osteopathic Structural Adjustments are used to correct the joints, followed by Myofascial Release of connective tissue. Neuromuscular Massage is implemented to reduce muscular tension, and Electrotherapy helps to interrupt the pain cycle.
If you have tried every possible known therapy and still have pain, you shouldn't give up!

Heart disease - Obesity - Diabetes - Alzheimer's - Irritable Bowel Syndrome
While they may appear to be separate diseases, in truth, they all have one single cause...
Inflammation!  Inflammation's ability to turn your own body against you, can wreak havoc on just about every organ in your body — from your brain to your bones.
As scary as that sounds, there is some good news for you...
Many causes of inflammation are fully preventable.  Pain comes from inflammation!
It's much easier than you think to put an end to all those health problems caused by inflammation —
Unfortunately and oftentimes, the knee-jerk reaction of the medical community to inflammation is to dole out drugs to reduce it.  In fact, there is a whole classification of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, available by prescription and over-the-counter.
"NSAIDs are associated with a variety of risks, according to new labeling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including an increased risk for cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke."
Fortunately, you can use at least 10 herbs for inflammation instead of dangerous drugs!

Black Pepper
People refer to black pepper as the King of Spices because of its intoxicating, rich aroma and complex flavor. Black pepper owes its distinctive pungent flavour to piperine, which also provides an astonishing anti-inflammatory effect.  Piperine inhibits the expression of a gene associated with arthritis and the spread of cancer, MMP13.  Even at low doses, piperine reduces inflammation by depressing prostaglandin production.  Furthermore, piperine significantly suppresses the perception of pain and arthritis symptoms while decreasing inflammation in joints.
Cardamom
As the Queen of Spices, cardamom also reduces inflammation. Part of the ginger family, cardamom is native to India and Sri Lanka; healers there have used cardamom to reduce inflammation for centuries.
Cayenne
Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin. Exposure to capsaicin causes body tissues to release substance P, which your body usually releases immediately after tissue damage.  Capsaicin does not actually damage tissue — this chemical only tricks your body into acting as if damage had occurred.
Repeated exposure of one part of your body to capsaicin will deplete that area of its substance P, which increases tolerance to capsaicin in people who regularly eat hot peppers.
Reducing substance P in one area of your body also decreases your sense of pain in that part. Capsaicin cream products take advantage of this effect to reduce arthritis pain in joints and other sources of chronic pain.  Best of all, the capsaicin in cayenne pepper can help protect your stomach from ulcers associated with NSAID use.
Chamomile
Ancient physicians Dioskurides, Galen and Plinius recommended tea to relieve inflammation of the mouth. Chamomile is a sun-loving plant whose flowers smell like fresh apples.  Oil distilled from these flowers contain a-bisabolol and chamazulene cyclic sesquiterpenes, which directly reduce inflammation. Chamomile oil also contains bisabolol oxides, farnesene and spiro-ether that have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties.

Ginger
Traditional medicine has relied on ginger’s anti-inflammatory powers for centuries.  According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there is also evidence that ginger eases pain associated with that classic inflammatory disease, arthritis. Additionally, ginger eases stomach upset, nausea and vomiting.
Turmeric
Turmeric gives curry its flavor and yellow color; food manufacturers also add turmeric to butter and cheese for color. Healers have used turmeric for more than 4,000 years to relieve inflammation, treat digestive problems and fight infections.
The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is an antioxidant that removes dangerous free radicals from the body.  Free radicals cause cell damage that leads to inflammation, including damage to cell membranes, negatively affect DNA and cause cells to die.  Additionally, turmeric lowers two types of enzymes known to cause inflammation.
Aloe
Aloe not only reduces inflammation but also eases pain and promotes skin repair and healing. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the anti-inflammatory effects of aloe gel are superior to 1 percent hydrocortisone cream.
Celery seed
Celery seed works to reduce inflammation by acting as a diuretic, which means it helps the body get rid of excess fluid by increasing urine output.  Celery seed is especially effective in treating inflammation caused by arthritis and gout, a type of arthritis.
Green tea
Green tea contains polyphenols, micro-nutrients that work in the body to prevent certain disease mechanisms — such as inflammation — from happening.  The main polyphenol in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG.  Together, EGCG and the other polyphenols in green tea have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.
Green tea is especially helpful in reducing inflammation in the digestive tract. This natural herb may reduce gastrointestinal inflammation associated with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Green tea may also help with arthritis by reducing inflammation and slowing down cartilage destruction associated with the disease.
Pomegranate
Pomegranates contain flavonols, a type of antioxidant, which seem especially helpful in reducing inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.  In that condition, inflammation contributes to the destruction of cartilage.  Pomegranate seems to block the production of an enzyme associated with cartilage destruction.
The next time you struggle with inflammation or the medical conditions caused by inflammation, try using an herbal remedy before resorting to dangerous drugs and chemicals.  Herbs are highly effective in reducing inflammation and carry relatively low risks for complications. Bio-Structural Integration™: Cancer - Make A Healthy Life Your Life-Long Goal!

All of the above is done within a 1 hour treatment. After the structure is realigned, we recommend BioFlex Low Intensity Laser Therapy to deal with inflammation. Now the healing is stimulated at the cellular level. This session may take 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the condition being treated. Elimination of inflammatory process assists in structural stabilization of the joints. The program of rehabilitation is around 5 weeks long and provides consistently over 90% of success in bringing back a pain-free and healthy body!

What You Don't Hear About Chemotherapy and Radiation
Many doctors will boast that chemotherapy saves lives, boosts long-term survival rates and does not damage the body.  All of these statements, however, are completely false.
Chemotherapy is a toxic poison.  It works by attacking rapidly dividing cells into your body that affect your nails, hair, skin, digestive health, and your blood. This process completely downgrades the quality of life and makes a person very sick, sometimes permanently damaging parts of the body in the process. These parts include your brain, liver, hearing, and your white blood cells, which play a huge part in your immune system.
Chemo is designed to attack rapidly reproducing cells, which include cancer cells, but also your healthy white blood cells, a key component of your immune system. Your immune system is what will keep you alive, so how can doctors justly boast chemotherapy as a healthy treatment for cancer?
Chemotherapy is carcinogenic, this means it actually causes cancer.  In fact, it’s so toxic that nurses have to protect their skin from exposure when administering it to patients. These chemicals eat through your skin, but they have no problem pumping It into your veins.
What causes cancer?

There are thousands of everyday DNA-altering, carcinogenic situations, let’s list just a few:
  • 60,000 chemicals in our air, food, and water
  • Vaccines
  • Processed foods
  • Genetically Modified foods
  • Prescription drugs
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Tobacco
  • Air pollution
  • Fluoridated water
  • Pesticides on produce
  • Herbicides on produce
  • Chlorine
  • Other water contaminates
Our bodies are made to heal themselves, but every day we pump junk food and prescription drugs into our bodies, all flushed down with chemical filled fluoridated water, and it all comes to a halt.

  • There has been a 68% increase in cancer drugs since 2003.
  • More than 50% of all cancer patients suffer significant treatment-related toxicity.
  • Chemotherapy drugs directly damage your DNA.
  • Chemotherapy actually boosts cancer growth.
  • Patients who undergo chemotherapy are 14 times more likely to develop leukemia and 6 times more likely to develop cancers of the bones, joints, and soft tissue than those who do not.
  • Radiation-induced secondary cancers have exploded in the last two decades due to radiation treatment.
  • Chemo does not eliminate breast, colon, or lung cancers yet it is still used on these cancers.
  • 90% of chemo patients die within 10 to 15 years after treatment, and the cause is never attributed to treatment.
"Not one chemotherapy drug has ever actually cured or resolved the underlying issues of cancer."

Do not be fooled into thinking poisoning your body is the only way to survive, because it is not.

What Can You Do Now?
  • Nourish your body with herbs
  • Exercise
  • Eat good, whole foods or even raw!
  •  Make healthy living a priority!

MAKE YOUR HEALTHY LIFE A GOAL!

You are worth so much more than you think, and poison is not a treatment it is a death sentence that holds a horrible quality of life.

Could we live in the reality of good healthy eating practices and awareness of the carcinogenic factors that can contribute to your health?  Exercise, and learn to let go of things that can be stressful because being overburdened with stress is surely a factor!  Visit your Osteopath regularly!  :)

A new study adds more weight to what yogis have long believed:
"Yoga can help combat chronic low back pain."
In the study, published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine, researchers compared the outcomes of 92 participants who took weekly yoga classes with 91 who took weekly stretching classes and 45 who received a so-called "self-care" book that offered guidance on exercise and lifestyle modifications.

They found that the yoga classes were more effective than the book when it came to helping participants manage chronic back pain. However, yoga was not any more effective in providing relief than the regular stretching classes.

Rehabilitation Yoga Pose
"Persons with chronic low back pain who attended a series of yoga or stretching [classes] had equivalent and clinically important improvements in their back-related dysfunction and symptoms that lasted for at least 14 weeks after the end of the study," said Karen Sherman, Ph.D., senior scientific investigator for the Seattle-based Group Health Research Institute and one of the study's authors. She described back-related dysfunction as difficulty in completing general, day-to-day activities.

In the study - which was funded by a cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Health's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine - participants who practiced yoga took 12 weekly classes that relied on the principles of viniyoga.
"Yoga comes in many styles -- analogous to ice cream flavors, I suspect - so we wanted to pick something to test that was likely to be safe and easy for beginners to practice both in classes and at home."
Each class lasted between 45 and 50 minutes and included five to 11 relatively simple postures, as well as deep guided relaxation and breathing exercises.
"Several other studies - all smaller than ours - have found that Iyengar yoga and general Hatha yoga are helpful for persons with back pain," Sherman added. "My guess is that any therapeutically-oriented style of yoga could be helpful to people with chronic back pain."
The researchers write, however, that because their study found stretching and yoga led to similar improvements, the primary benefits of yoga were attributable to the stretching and strengthening of participants' muscles, rather than any mental or spiritual effects.

Dr. Loren Fishman, a HuffPost blogger and specialist in physical and rehabilitative medicine and director of Manhattan Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, praised the study as an "important pre-requisite" for future research looking more closely at the role different types of yoga might have in improving more specific and even more debilitating back problems, and what role the psychological component of the practice might play.

In the meantime, he said it adds scientific weight to what is understood about the potential benefits of yoga.
"I think that people can come away from this saying that whatever else yoga may do, it definitely provides stretching," he said. "The value of yoga has been shown again."

But Sherman cautioned that people must speak with their health care provider before embarking on any new program and should interview potential instructors, as well as consider a small class for personal attention. She said that those who prefer stretching to yoga should keep in mind that participants in this study did a lot of it -- about 52 minutes per class, supplemented with 20 minutes of stretching on non-class days.

Indeed, one of the biggest benefits of yoga from a public health perspective may simply be its ubiquity. According to US News, estimates in 2010 suggest some 14 million people in the U.S. practiced it.

"I think finding classes that include this much stretching will be tough," Sherman said, "But not necessarily impossible."  You can find it at Hot Yoga Wellness through Osteoklinika!

At OsteoKlinika we encourage rehabilitative and restorative yoga practice. Bio-Structural Integration™ : Candy Crushing Neck Pain

Here’s What Happens to Your Spine When You’re Constantly Texting
I'm not saying that everyone plays Candy Crush, but whatever you are doing on your hand-held device is hurting your neck and spine!

When you tilt your head forward 60 degrees to look at your phone, you're putting 60 pounds of pressure on your neck.  Can you imagine the significance of 60 pounds?  Well, Imagine carrying an 8-year-old around your neck several hours per day!

The human head weighs about a dozen pounds. But as the neck bends forward and down, the weight on the cervical spine begins to increase.
  • At a 15-degree angle, this weight is about 27 pounds
  • At 30 degrees it’s 40 pounds
  • At 45 degrees it’s 49 pounds
  • At 60 degrees it’s 60 pounds!
Staring at your phone is killing your back and your neck!

According to a new study from spinal surgeon Dr. Kenneth Hansraj and published in Surgical Technology International, people spend two to four hours per day on average with their heads tilted downward in activities like texting and reading, the study said. Over the course of a year, that time adds up to 700 to 1,400 hours of excess stress on the cervical spine, or up to 5,000 hours for high school students. Over time, this causes a hunched-forward position and increases the risk of spinal wear and tear.

It’s “nearly impossible to avoid the technologies that cause these issues,” Dr. Hansraj wrote in the report. But people can take preventative steps by looking at their phones while maintaining good posture, defined as having one’s ears aligned with their shoulders.

Bio-Structural Integration™: Chronic Inflammation (Pain)

Bio-Structural Integration™ sets the new standard of rehabilitation that is unique, effective and provides quick relief of pain! It is a unique, trademarked process at Osteoklinika!

Over 15 years ago we discovered that therapy centered around only one system simply does not work. Why? The body functions as a unit.
Avoid these foods to reduce the pain and enhance the quality of your life:
  • Limit Sugar and AVOID Artificial Sweeteners
  • Avoid Large Quantities of Caffeine
  • Nightshade Vegetables
  • Avoid Yeast and Gluten
  • Refined Carbohydrates (Carbs)
  • Watch Out For Food Additives
  • Avoid Alcohol and Tobacco
  • Processed Vegetable Oils

Most vegetable oils such as canola and corn oil contain too much omega-6 fatty acids. They trigger inflammation and should be avoided. Opt for healing omega-3 rich oils, seeds, and nuts instead fish oil, olive oil, flax seeds, chia seeds, etc). Omega-3 will help you to reduce inflammation and pain. Read here more about the amazing health benefits of omega-3.

Eliminate Processed and Fast Food!

If you suffer from chronic pain try and eliminate these foods for a few weeks and see what happens. See what works for you. Try cutting them out one by one or gradually. Also increase your consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats to reduce inflammation and pain. If you’re feeling up for it, try a vegan lifestyle and increase your intake of raw vegetables as well. They are packed with antioxidants to prevent cell damage.

Chronic Inflammation (Pain)

Fybromyalgia Pain Spots
Fibromyalgia and arthritis are very common forms of chronic pain (or chronic inflammation) that can linger for years and reduce the quality of life. Chronic pain is often difficult to treat and medication can only reduce the pain, fatigue, and other symptoms a bit. And let’s not forget that those drugs come with plenty of other side-effects that often cause more problems than they solve.
Therefore many patients are turning to lifestyle and diet changes to find relief. Many fibromyalgia or chronic pain sufferers are sensitive to certain foods that often don’t show up in food allergy tests. Although there are not many tests linking chronic pain to diet, many people report more pain and stiffness when they eat certain foods.

Researchers believe that oversensitive nerve cells may be involved in the process. They believe that certain foods trigger the release of neurotransmitters that may worsen food and pain sensitivity.
High insulin levels can worsen pain and inflammation. Limit all sugars and hidden sugars from your diet. If you want to consume fruits, opt for whole fresh fruits and avoid fruit juices. Although artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sorbitol, and xylitol are sugar-free, they contain other compounds that can mess up your sensitivity to pain and can trigger irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Chronic pain or fibromyalgia is often linked to inadequate sleep and fatigue. So most patients get tempted to drink more coffee to get them through the day. Although a caffeine shot may seem to work, it can do more harm than good in the long run. Caffeine can linger in your system long after you had your energy shot and may cause sleeping issues at night.

Veggies are low in calories and super healthy, but if you are a chronic pain sufferer, you should limit nightshade vegetables to an absolute minimum. These foods contain a particular group of substances called alkaloids, that can impact nerve-muscle function and digestive function. These foods may cause health problems in individuals who are especially sensitive to these alkaloid substances. They are known to trigger arthritis and worsen pain.  Nightshade veggies include tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and many species of sweet and hot peppers.

Yeast and gluten can be found in many baked goods and can cause the growth of yeast fungus which may contribute to pain. Also many fibromyalgia patients seem to be more prone to gluten sensitivities.

Eliminate Dairy

Dairy and other animal products contain a special type of protein that may contribute to arthritis or fibromyalgia. This protein irritates the tissue around joints and can worsen pain. Many chronic pain sufferers have solved their issues by going vegan. But for many of us that’s just a step too far. Instead of going 100% vegan try to get your protein through nut milks, beans, lentils, and quinoa, as much as possible. See what works for you. And if you eat meat, opt for organic meat.

Carbs, just as sugars, will increase insulin levels and may worsen fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions. So opt for a low-carb, low-sugar plant based diet as much as possible.

Food additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG) cause more problems for patients with chronic pain. They stimulate pain receptors and increase pain. MSG is a high-sodium flavor often added to fast food and pre-packaged foods to improve their taste. Again opt for fresh, whole foods and make sure to read your labels and especially avoid these 10 toxic food ingredients. READ THE FOOD LABELS CAREFULLY!

These can lead to all sorts of ailments, including some that affect your joints. Smokers are at higher risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, while people who drink alcohol on a daily basis have a higher risk of developing gout.

Eliminate from fast or processed foods. More often than not, they contain sugar, artificial sweeteners, omega-6-rich oils, processed grains, high levels of sodium, additives, and other harmful compounds.
Rehabilitative Yoga Pose

Exercise and Yoga

Regular, mild exercising should be something you should also consider. Gentle yoga stretches or rehabilitative yoga have shown great results at Osteoklinika (see Bio-Structural Integration™ treatment).
